Extra luggage in our spiritual life
Mount Sinai was where the people of Israel stayed for many days after they left Egypt.
They stayed at this place for about a year.
This is where the Tabernacle was created. The duties of the Levitical priests were defined
Manna fell from heaven, and the people of Israel ate it.
They rested comfortably in the protection of God.
The events of their journey after this are narrated in Numbers 10:11 to 12:16.
When the Israelites left Egypt, about 2 million people went.
The Jews grumbled for water on the third day of their departure from Egypt. Now they grumbled for meat on the third day of their departure towards Canaan.
They lusted for the food they ate in Egypt.
They longed for the fish, cucumber, and garlic they had eaten in Egypt.
They ignored the manna that God had showered from the sky and stood at the tent door crying for food.
This is the reason
A group of non-Jews came with them from Egypt. (A mixed multitude).
We do not know why they left with the Jews.
But they were a great stumbling block to the Israelites.
These are the ones who have developed a grudge against the manna that the Lord has given them.
As a result, the Jews ignored the manna that God had showered from heaven and stood at the tent door crying for food.
Seeing this, Moses said, "Have I conceived all these people? Have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?"
Moses had reached the height of despair.
Seeing this, the Lord sent a wind that struck the quails in the sea and filled the entire camp.
Before the Jews could devour the quails, God's anger was kindled and a deadly pestilence struck them. It was the non-Jews who came along with the Jews who laid the foundation for such a great impact.
What lessons do these events convey in our spiritual lives?
These events
It reminds us of our Lord's words about weeds in Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43.
The devil will always sow weeds and crops in the churches.
These weeds also look like crops. They are like converted believers in every way.
The devil will use them when the time comes. These are false brothers.
Galatians 2:4, 2 Corinthians 11:26.
These are false ministers who pretend to be ministers. 2Cor 11:13.
These weeds are always brought from congregations.
We have to be vigilant in our spiritual life.
Another important note to note.
These people were unwanted people in the sight of God.
They will make us deviate from God's will.
They will stop us from carrying out the Lord's will for us.
Sometimes they lead directly to sins.
So we must be wary of those who travel with us on our spiritual journey.
We cannot assume that all human beings are our spiritual helpers.
In the same way that there are weeds in it when Abraham went to Egypt against God's will, Hagar, the servant girl who came as a reward from Pharaoh, produced an unwanted offspring. So in our spiritual life, it is necessary to pray that "Lord, remove unnecessary friendships, relationships, and associations from my life."
