1 Chronicles —
Bible Lesson 17
Scripture Portion for Meditation: Chapter 20

In Genesis chapter 6, verses 2 to 4, it is mentioned that the “sons of God” were angels who entered into unnatural relationships with the daughters of men, and as a result, a race of giants was born. Based on this interpretation, I am meditating on this chapter.

There is, however, another viewpoint — that these “sons of God” were not angels, but humans. Yet, I understand the events of this twentieth chapter from the perspective that the angels had unnatural relationships with women, and I present my reflections accordingly.

In this chapter (1 Chronicles 20), a particular giant is mentioned — a man who had twenty-four fingers and toes and was said to be descended from the race of giants. In verse 4, another warrior — a “champion” of the giants — is also referred to

So then, who were these giants?

They may also be called demons or Nephilim. These beings were the offspring born from certain angels from heaven who entered into relationships with human women. As stated in the Epistle of Jude, they were born through unnatural unions.

Satan, knowing that his destruction would come through “the seed of the woman”, tried to corrupt the human race in order to stop it. He made two major attempts to achieve this.
The first attempt:
As described in Genesis, fallen angels corrupted humanity; therefore, God chose Noah’s family — the only one that remained uncorrupted in Adam’s lineage.
The second attempt:
Even after the Great Flood, Satan made the same attempt again, resulting in the reappearance of giants (as mentioned in Numbers 13:33).
Finally, in this twentieth chapter, we read about the last mention of these giants. After this, the Bible no longer refers to them, implying that the entire race of giants (or demons) was completely destroyed.
Satan knew that his downfall would come through the seed of the woman, so he tried to corrupt mankind — but he failed.
Lessons to Learn:
From Eden to Calvary, Satan sought to prevent the coming of the world’s Redeemer and even tried to stop His death. But his plans failed. Ultimately, the Savior of the world was born from the lineage of David.
Through this, we learn that no power can prevent the fulfillment of God’s divine purpose.
The destruction of the giants stands as a powerful testimony and a deep spiritual lesson to us.
