Bible Study

Rebekah took God's Plan into her own hands.
Just for your thoughts.

Rebekah took God's Plan into her own hands.

Rebekah was a woman who received a clear revelation from God concerning her children even before they were born.
She knew that “the older shall serve the younger.” Yet, instead of waiting for God's appointed time, she learned that Isaac was about to bless Esau and took matters into her own hands.
She pressured Jacob, encouraged him to deceive his father, participated in the deception herself, and even offered to bear the consequences. In doing so, she attempted to promote Jacob ahead of God's timing.
The result was tragic. Although Jacob received the blessing, Rebekah never got to enjoy seeing its fulfillment. After Jacob fled from home, Scripture never records that she saw her beloved son again before her death.
It is not enough to know God's will; we must also allow it to be fulfilled in God's way and in God's time.
Lessons We Can Learn
1. God's promises do not require human manipulation.
God does not need lies, schemes, or human strategies to accomplish what He has promised. What God has spoken, He will fulfill in His own time.
2. A good intention does not justify wrong methods.
Rebekah's goal may have been to secure the blessing for Jacob, but the methods she employed were marked by deception and dishonesty. Right motives cannot make wrong actions right.
3. Running ahead of God brings sorrow.
Jacob obtained the blessing, but immediately afterward he had to flee from his home. Rebekah, according to the biblical record, never saw her beloved son again. Acting ahead of God's timing often brings unnecessary pain and consequences.
Helping Is Our Responsibility; Promotion Is God's Work
We can support people, encourage them, and guide them. But opening doors, establishing their future, and raising them up belong to God alone.
“The LORD makes the poor and makes rich; He brings low and He exalts.” (1 Samuel 2:7)
“Promotion does not come from the east or from the west... but God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another.” (Psalm 75:6–7)
A Brief Reflection
We may help others, but we cannot promote them.
*We may sow the seed, but God gives the growth.*
We may knock on the door, but God is the One who opens it.
We can help others, but promotion comes from God alone.
