Esther – Lesson 13
Commentary on the Book of Esther.
God Is Always in Control
When we connect Esther 5:14 through 6:5, one important truth becomes very clear: this world operates under God's sovereign control. Not even for a moment can it be said that He is out of control.
This passage serves as a powerful example of the God who never abandons His children, even for the blink of an eye. If He were to leave us for even a moment, our lives could be thrown into confusion and disaster.
To understand this truth, we must connect the events recorded in these verses.
Haman had decided to build a gallows seventy-five feet high and planned to ask the king the following morning for permission to hang Mordecai on it. This was the advice given to him by his wife and his friends.
However, that very night, the king could not sleep. Therefore, he ordered the book of records, the chronicles of his kingdom, to be brought and read before him.
As the records were being read, it was found that Mordecai had exposed the plot of two palace guards, Bigthana and Teresh, who had conspired to assassinate King Ahasuerus.
The king then asked, “What honor and recognition has been given to Mordecai for this?” The reply was, “Nothing has been done for him.”
At that very moment, the king asked, “Who is in the court?” At the same time, Haman had entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he had prepared.
The king's servants answered, “Haman is standing in the court.” The king then commanded that he be brought in.
What happened next is well known to us. The king used Haman himself—the very man who intended to destroy Mordecai—to honor Mordecai publicly.
The important point for us to consider is this: if Haman had arrived a little earlier, he might have presented his request to the king and obtained permission to execute Mordecai. But the Lord did not allow that to happen.
God sovereignly arranged the timing so that Haman arrived at the exact moment when the king had just realized that Mordecai needed to be honored.
Through this event, God protected Mordecai by bringing Haman before the king at precisely the right time.
God is never late in delivering His children. At the appointed time, He intervenes and works wonders. His timetable is perfect and is never subject to error or change.
He brings everything to completion for our good in His own time. This is a truth that every believer must firmly hold on to.
If this truth is deeply rooted in our hearts, we will not be overwhelmed by anxiety. Many of our fears and worries arise when our faith in God's sovereign control becomes weak.
When pressures, trials, and difficulties come, there is one truth we must cling to:
“God is in control.”
Yet, like Moses, we often cry out in distress and struggle to understand God's plan and timing.
May God Himself grant us a faith that does not panic and an unshakable confidence in His perfect providence.
Amen.
