Chapter to Meditate: Chapter 22
In this chapter, we see the reason why David did not build the temple of God, and how God entrusted that task to Solomon.
David also pronounced blessings upon him and instructed him on what he must do. Finally, he spoke to the leaders who were dedicated to the temple construction. Let us now look closely at his words:
“Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise, and build the sanctuary of the Lord God.”
When we relate this thought to the New Testament truth, Solomon can be seen as a leader chosen by God with a divine calling, and those who helped him in building the temple can be viewed as fellow workers or believers.
This becomes a vital lesson for believers who labor to establish God’s Kingdom.
The point David makes here is this — those who help in the temple construction should not do it merely for Solomon, but they must first seek the Lord and dedicate themselves to Him. Only then should they engage in the work of building the temple.
In the same way, believers — whether leaders, preachers, or pastors — when they take part in church or ministry activities, must first seek God and surrender themselves to Him. Only after that should they work alongside their leaders in building the ministry. Believers should never attempt to build God’s Kingdom by centering everything around a human leader.
They must first seek God, dedicate themselves to Him, and walk in His ways.
“God is first a matter of the heart, then of the hands.”
“Set your heart and build the sanctuary.”
This must be the primary goal of every believer. Only then can one truly participate in building God’s Kingdom. Ignoring this foundational truth (seeking and dedicating oneself to God first) and prioritizing ministry instead is not biblical. Such ministry will not bring blessing.
When trials arise in such work, those who lack a close relationship with the Lord will not be able to endure; they will fall back, losing both their ministry and their connection with God.
The primary purpose of our life is to seek the Lord and dedicate ourselves wholly to Him. This is the first lesson toward a victorious life.
The divine order must never be changed:
First, relationship with God;
then, family life;
and then, ministry
.
God first. Ministry next
