*God Does Not Always Punish Instantly*
*God does not always bring immediate punishment* or chastening for every sin, offense, or act of disobedience we commit.
According to His eternal purpose and sovereign will, His discipline is often revealed in our lives for our spiritual growth and maturity.
However, there are occasions when God's judgment or discipline is immediate. The Bible records several such instances.
1. The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
? Genesis 19:24
2. The Death of Nadab and Abihu
Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, died because they offered unauthorized (strange) fire before the Lord.? Leviticus 10:1–2
3. Miriam Struck with Leprosy
Because Miriam spoke against Moses, she was immediately struck with leprosy, becoming white as snow.? Numbers 12:10
4. Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and Their Followers
Because they rebelled against God and against Moses, they experienced God's immediate judgment and perished.? Numbers 16
5. Ananias and Sapphira
In the early days of the New Testament church, Ananias and Sapphira died immediately after lying to the Holy Spirit.? Acts 5:1–11
Lessons We Learn
Sometimes God's discipline for our sins may be delayed.
At other times, it may come immediately.
When discipline is delayed, we must never assume that God has overlooked our sin or approved of our actions.
In His perfect timing, in His own way, and according to His sovereign plan, God will accomplish His purpose through His discipline.
For those who are born again, there is no eternal condemnation, but there is the loving discipline of a heavenly Father.
Punishment is different from discipline (chastening).
"If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons." Hebrews 12:8 (ESV)
