How Do You Discover Your Spiritual Gift?

" *Start where you are—do anything you can do, and do everything you can do, until you find something you must do! That something is probably your spiritual gift." — Jim George*

Many believers ask, “What is my spiritual gift?” Yet the Bible does not first tell us to search for our gift; rather, it calls us to begin serving the Lord faithfully.
The Lord Jesus Christ said, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much” (Luke 16:10).

As we faithfully engage in the small ministries and opportunities before us, God gradually reveals the abilities and gifts He has given us.
We see this principle in the early church as well. Believers were involved in various forms of ministry. Some taught, some encouraged, some served, and some led (Romans 12:6–8). They did not first identify their spiritual gifts and then begin serving. Instead, as they served God, their gifts became evident.
One person may discover a unique passion and effectiveness in sharing the gospel. Another may excel in encouraging others or teaching God’s Word. In the midst of service, God often makes His will and the gifts He has entrusted to us increasingly clear.
Therefore, rather than waiting and asking, “What is my gift?” it is better to ask, “What can I do for the Lord right now?” Serve faithfully with prayer and humility.
As you do, you may find that among the many things you are willing to do, there is one thing you simply cannot help but do. That deep sense of calling, combined with God-given ability and spiritual fruitfulness, may point to your spiritual gift.
God gives spiritual gifts not to exalt us, but to build up the Body of Christ and to be a blessing to others. Therefore, start where you are. Do what you can for the Lord. As you walk the path of faithful service, God will reveal the gift He has given you.
Key Verse
"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
— 1 Peter 4:10
Rather than asking, “Will God show me my gift?” a better question is, “Am I being faithful in the work God has placed in my hands today?”
Keep serving the Lord faithfully. In time, your calling, your gift, and your ministry will become increasingly clear.
"Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life."
— Rev 2:10
