Saul's early life was remarkable.
He was seen as a humble man.
1 Sam 9:21
He was a person who did not identify himself with the power . Sam 10:16
Even though he was anointed as king, he hesitated to take that responsibility and hid himself. 10:22.
What these qualities show is that he was naturally reluctant to identify himself with the power.
As soon as he was anointed as the king, when we look at his history
God changed his heart.
1 Samuel 10:9
The reason
The Spirit of God came upon him with power. He became a different person.
1 Samuel 10:6.
Although the Spirit of God came upon him and God gave him another heart, his character did not change completely.
Eventually he committed suicide.
Because he did not obey God's words, he showed himself as a priest and tried to take revenge on David for no reason. He committed a series of sins He lived for many years without knowing that God had passed away from him by committing such a series of sins.
One thing we must understand.
The purpose of God's Spirit descending upon him was to fulfill the ministry or task given to him by God.
"He was God's man officially. But he was not a true believer." William MacDonald
Many such events took place in the lives of a few people in the Old Testament.
Exodus 31:3, Numbers 11:17,25, Judges 6:34, 14:6, Necho 9:20, Isaiah 61:1, Ezekiel 2:2, Micah 3:8.
The purpose of the Spirit of God descending upon certain individuals in the Old Testament was to fulfill the work God had given them.
When that work is done, the Spirit of God will pass away from him.
But not so in the New Testament.
The purpose for which the Holy Spirit has been given to us is to do His ministry and to receive all the graces necessary for us to become like Jesus Christ.
From the day I am born again until the day I die, the Holy Spirit will continue to dwell in us and make a difference in our lives.
This is the difference between the Spirit of God descending upon a man in the Old Testament and a man being born of the Spirit in the New Testament.
The Old Testament period is the period of God's commandments.
The New Testament age is the age of the Holy Spirit.
