Why did God destroy all the firstborn in Egypt?
Just for your thoughts:
Why did God destroy all the firstborn in Egypt? What lesson can we learn from this?
God refers to Israel as His firstborn son (Exodus 4:22). Pharaoh had all the male children born to the Israelites killed and thrown into the Nile River. Therefore, from the beginning, God warned Pharaoh that if he did not allow His firstborn son, the Israelites, to worship Him, He would kill Pharaoh's firstborn son.
However, even after facing nine plagues, Pharaoh hardened his heart and still did not allow the Israelites to worship God. As a result, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the female servant who worked at the hand mill, and even the firstborn of the animals, God brought death to all the firstborn in Egypt (Exodus 11:5).
A man reaps what he sows. There is no change in this principle:
"Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. A man reaps what he sows." — Galatians 6:7
Just as Pharaoh punished God's people, God repaid Pharaoh with His righteous judgment.
"The Lord simply paid Pharaoh back with his currency." — W.W. Wiersbe
Many in the Bible faced consequences for their wrongdoings — Jacob, David, Haman, to name a few.
Even those of us who have experienced salvation must understand this: if we do wrong or act unjustly toward others, God may forgive us when we ask, but we must still face the consequences of those actions in this world. There is no exception to this.
We must be cautious in matters where we harm others. We will reap what we sow.
Believers may not always be able to do good to everyone, but we must be afraid to do injustice to anyone.
