Aaron’s sons who fell because of their indulgence.
Just for your thoughts:
Aaron’s sons, who fell because of their indulgence.
"Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you enter the tent of meeting, so that you will not die." (Leviticus 10:9)
In the book of Leviticus, the Lord spoke to Moses alone regarding the duties of the tabernacle and various regulations about food. But in this one instance, God spoke directly to Aaron.
And when did this happen? It was right after his two sons had brought unauthorized fire to the altar—fire which the Lord had not commanded. Then fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them.
From this, we can understand that, on that very day, they had likely consumed wine and under its influence, brought unauthorized fire before the Lord.
That is why God gave this command specifically to Aaron, also speaking about his children who would take up leadership after him.
Who were Nadab and Abihu? They were men who had seen God Himself—not ordinary men (Exodus 24:1–14). Yet, even after seeing God, they acted without reverence toward Him because of the influence of liquor.
We must always remain under the control of the Holy Spirit. It is not only alcohol—any worldly distractions, such as political involvement, worldly desires, love of money, or an unquenchable thirst for positions of leadership, can severely damage our ministry.
The warning we should take to heart is this: "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!" (1 Corinthians 10:12). We must always follow Ephesians 5:18—Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
Even if we have had the highest spiritual experiences and visions, we must strive every single day and every single moment to preserve holiness. This is what God expects of us. Our past experiences will not take us to heaven—only the life we live will lead us there.
